Roget's Thesaurus states: "Vanity": A regarding of oneself with undue favor: amour-propre, conceit, ego, egoism, egotism, narcissism, pride, vainglory, vainness. Slang: ego trip. See self-love.
NOW: Think about how much these characteristics are growing among Muslims these days even though Islam forbids arrogance, vanity or any of the above synonyms.
Shaitan will try and fool us in the smallest and most discreet ways. Be careful and always be humble.
“And turn not your face away from men with pride, nor walk in insolence through the earth. Verily, Allaah likes not any arrogant boaster. And be moderate (or show no insolence) in your walking, and lower your voice. Verily, the harshest of all voices is the braying of the asses.” [Luqmaan 31:18-19]
Thank ALLAH for your successes and make duaa to ALLAH that He protect you and all Muslims from the evil of ourselves: our arrogance.
